Oklahoma UDC Historian's June 12, 2010 The Division continues to strive toward getting information about the Confederacy, as well as UDC services, out to the public. When this officer was unable to attend Winter Board, packet material was mailed individually to each chapter, as well as made available online. 2010 Reports were made by Historians from three chapters: Thelma Blackburn, Cherokee #1737, Bartlesville; Glenda Brown, Sarah Watie #2579, Tulsa; and Fredrea Cook, Cowskin Prairie #2611, Grove. Our Division statistical report, already forwarded to General, reflects a total of 5,852 points. I’m sure the drop of 1,918 points from the statistical report of 2009 does not indicate a drop in UDC Aims and Goals. Rather, our Division has been busy in diverse ways of historical observance, preservation, and promotion of Confederate values and lifestyle. 2010 Chapter reports include such innovative historical achievement as members modeling their Confederate work ethic, in historical preservation, while working on the DAR veteran’s database from Thelma Blackburn; and practicing traditional Southern manners while hosting our Division President for three separate chapter meetings, from Glenda Brown; and a chapter-level daytrip of local War Between the States historical sites, aimed to familiarize new members with local history, from Fredrea Cook. These examples illustrate that we should not confine our historical works to a statistical report check list. The Confederacy, and preserving its history, is a rich, vibrant, and multi-faceted subject. The Historian’s blog (okdivudchistorian.wordpress.com) was continued to compliment the Division resources. The Official Division website at www.orgsites.com/ok/okdivudc/index.html continues without Division historical content. This officer’s chapter is hosting information previously available from Division on their new site at www.okdivudc.com/Division/history. While part of the Division Historian’s purview is chapter “book judging” of current compilations which will soon be historical artifacts, there are several other worthwhile opportunities available at all levels of UDC. One honor this officer took part in 2010 was the awarding of the much sought after Jefferson Davis Historical Gold Medal to Steven L. Warren, for his groundbreaking multi-media work with the Second Battle at Cabin Creek. Cowskin Prairie, #2611, invited each chapter, as well as the public, to their luncheon ceremony yesterday where the chapter-level award was bestowed. This officer’s duties conclude tonight with the final awards given. Historian files have been prepared and will be transferred to our new Historian tomorrow after instillation. Keep up the good work, and let’s continue to strive to support each other and network, network, network. Respectfully Submitted, Carrie Cook (399 words)
