Oklahoma UDC History Chairman June 12, 2010 Oklahoma Division received three chapter reports this year. All chapters should strive, in the future, to complete reports for any office or chairmanship they have active. Reporting chapters and their historians for 2010 are: Thelma Blackburn, Cherokee #1737, Bartlesville; Glenda Brown, Sarah Watie #2579, Tulsa; and Fredrea Cook, Cowskin Prairie #2611, Grove. Chapters were active in schools, donating Confederate materials in a variety of formats and monies to local repositories, they volunteered, produced newsletters, yearbooks and scrapbooks, bestowed UDC awards through other Officers and Chairmanships, supported veterans, spoke on Confederate topics out of state, members were even a hit of Baxter Museum’s education week. Oklahoma Daughters honored our Confederate ancestors by visiting graves, museums with Confederate exhibits, as well as battlefield parks and sites throughout the mid-south: Ft. Blair/Kansas Heritage/Baxter Springs Museum, Kansas; Bushwhacker Museum, Missouri; Carthage Civil War Museum, Missouri, Confederate Memorial Center, North Carolina; assorted cemeteries and sites in the Nashville area; Sabine Pass; Shiloh; Vicksburg. In Oklahoma – Beck-Hildebrand Mill, Butler Cemetery, Cabin Creek, Locust Grove, Oaks Mission, Polson and Rose Cemeteries, and Saline Courthouse were reported. All reporting chapters honored a variety of special Confederate dates. From Birthday parties and anniversary observances to wreath laying in several states, our Division shows its colors by being visible to the public through these observances.
Respectfully Submitted, Carrie Cook (211 words)
