Division Chapters Winter Greetings Fellow Daughters, Please take look over the information I’ve provided here for your convenience. Several items are directly from General, while others were created specifically for the Oklahoma Division. In the enclosure list, I’ve placed an asterisk (*) by any forms downloadable from General (http://www.hqudc.org/), if you wish another copy for any reason. For new copies of Division attachments, contact me and I’ll be happy to email of FAX them to you. Make as many copies of this information for distribution as you wish; the more of our Daughters we can get involved, the better. I encourage everyone to, at least, be visible as a UDC member. Get involved with Division and General Committee work and help spread the word about true Southern Spirit. Visit and support General, all Divisions and Chapters who are online. Join our Division E-list and take a look at this Historian’s blog. It is important to note that the Yearbook of the Historian General is no longer published as its’ own publication. This data has been renamed “Manual for Historians” and is found in the UDC Notebook, available through General. If your chapter doesn’t have access to at least one copy, I urge your Chapter to order one. It should be on the reference shelf along with the current Division Proceedings and Robert’s Rules. It reflects on the entire Division when every Chapter is able to make the deadline for the Statistical report to Division. When this date is not met, this officer has less time to do her job, or has to report to General without 100% reporting. If mailing your completed report – all 3 or more pages - be sure to allow plenty of time for USPS delivery. Reports, for 2009 Division judging, must arrive at the Division Historian on or before the deadline of 5-20-09 – not “mailed by”. Alternative Division Historian filing this year includes, FAX to 9185424148; posting it online and emailing me the URL; or emailing me (text in-line or PDF attachment only). Regardless of the method you choose to report, if you do not get confirmation from me, please follow up, in a timely manner, to be sure your Chapter is counted. If you choose to file a second report that covers more of the year, it must be in to me by 8-15-09. Please note on your first report that you plan on filing a second one, so I can be watching for it. Many of us recognize the need to work tirelessly, often times unrecognized. However, we should all appreciate the work both our members and others are doing to promote the unbiased reality of the era in which the War Between the States took place. Please review all of the Jefferson Davis Historical Gold Medal information, as well as the Sidney Lanier Medal – it may be surprising how many people your members know that qualify, but have yet to be publicly recognized for their efforts. There are no deadlines for these types of honors. Please note in your application packet, to me, if you are interested in presenting your accolade at Division Convention. Furthermore, I suggest that learning about every honor the UDC bestows would make, at the very least, great historical meeting programs. However, once you are armed with knowledge, it is my hope that you will pursue these UDC honors for those residing, or doing good works, in this Division who deserve the admiration and respect of these tributes. Contact the appropriate Officer or Chairman and give credit where credit is due. Do your part to encourage others to continue their work with Southern Spirit. This administration’s Historian General programs will be published in the UDC Magazine’s June issue. The program list, through the fall, can be found online now at general. Always remember that the program information is always published in the preceding month’s magazine. Division judging of chapter scrapbook, yearbook, and newsletter will be based on General guidelines – see UDC Notebook. A press book may be submitted under the scrapbook category, if no scrapbook is entered. To this end, I’ve already prepared the judging sheets for this year and have attached them for reference. Note in addition to General awards, in each membership category, this Historian is sponsoring a few special awards. Books to be judged will be submitted at Division Convention. Winning books may be sent to General by their Chapters, provided this officer is supplied with tracking information; or winning books will be placed in Historian’s custody at the end of Division Convention, for shipping/delivery for General judging. The Division will have a scrapbook this year, but what goes in it is up to you. If you wish anything included, please send it to me by May 1. We have, in the past, been graced with several wonderful authors who put their efforts into Confederate essays, articles, books and more. Many have exceeded all expectations by earning awards and praise all the way to General. Please consider joining this great group of Oklahoma Daughter’s this year. I’ve attached a data sheet with all of the 2009 information from General. Any Oklahoma entries must be in to me by July 1, 2009, for judging. General rules can be found on page 13-5 of the UDC Notebook. Unless restricted by 2009 General guidelines, please also submit your work to other publications, such as the Oklahoma Chronicle. Note in your entry package if you release Division online publication. If released, all entries will be posted sometime after September 1, 2009.
