The Cowskin Prairie Chapter is
always up for a challenge. As a relatively new chapter, #2611 with several
out-of-area members, it was very important to us to be able to welcome our
friends from Division, Georgia, South Carolina, and our President General in
gracious Southern style.
This celebration of Oklahoma
Division 100 Years of Service to UDC was the theme that tied the Convention
together. From Historical Evening, where Imogene Crutchfield, Historian,
coordinated everything from the Native American meal to the dynamic Cherokee
presentation by Jay Hannah to the Division election where we came full circle,
establishing the next administration ready to serve.
Our planning meetings began the
month that Mary Jeanne Hansen; President invited us to take up hosting duties.
It was fun finding creative and “crafty” ways to make attendees feel well cared
for. Special effort went into Division communication from the new State Elist to
our Convention Newsletter and Convention Website. Without the support of our
community and UDC volunteers, we would not have been able to reach our goal:
From Barbara Crew Hutton, whom was indispensable during planning, to Christy and
Casidy Baugh, Carol Cox, Justine Gore, Charleen Samuels and Rebecca Wester who
were full time volunteers, to Lorene Childers, Barney and V. V. Larkin, and
Shirley Rider, who jumped in and helped during Convention. Community support is
listed in the programs and at
www.okdivudc.com/Division/2008Division/thankyou.htm online.
Informative information on the
Beck-Hildebrand Mill, Division Business and Centennial President’s reports were
an important part of the Convention. Honoring excellence of service was in
evidence throughout. Nationally known fiddler, Jake Simpson (2008 winner of the
186th Judah P. Benjamin award) also graced us with some good,
old-fashioned, Southern music.
The Memorial Service went on
the road to historic Butler
Church, followed by an era-appropriate memorial wreath
ceremony in the Cemetery.
Additional Convention
information reported included over $400.00 raised at the Confederate Fair, a
final Convention Treasurer’s report showing no deficit, and a warm invitation
for Convention 2009.

It gives me great pleasure to present the
Division President with $410.50, the proceeds of this year’s Confederate Fair.
We thank everyone for patronizing us.
A big thank you goes to those chapters who
participated in the chapter basket portion of the Confederate Fair. Chapters who
checked in baskets for were: Dixie #2543, Sarah Watie #2579, Oklahoma City
#1181, John Jumper #2599, Jefferson Davis #2255, Cherokee #1737, and Cowskin
Prairie #2611. A special thank you is extended to Sarah Watie, who brought not
one, not two, but three baskets for the Confederate Fair. Chapters who checked
in homemade goodies for the bake sale portion of the Confederate fair were:
#1181, #2543, #2579, #2611, #1204, #2599, #564, #2255, and #1737.
We are also pleased to announce that all food
not purchased at the Confederate Fair, like those individually wrapped items not
used in the Hospitality Room, will be sent to our veterans. This was one of the
reasons the bake sale type portion of the Confederate Fair was selected this
year. We thank you all for the super response this year.
